So I was on the phone with JV last night (we have almost nightly chats usually involving one of us on speaker phone saying WHAT several times) discussing first impressions. Patti Stanger (of Millionaire Matchmaker fame) was discussing how much time women spend getting ready to hit the town on the weekends yet it’s far more likely, statistically speaking, to meet your mate during the week while going about day-to-day activities, such as walking your dog, working out, at your office, etc. So all the primping and outfit changing on a Friday or Saturday night may not be getting us anywhere. I’m the first to admit that during the week I’m more likely in boots, leggings and some sort of comfy sweater (unless I’m meeting a client, of course). I try to do something with my hair, but sometimes that “something” is a wet braid or messy bun and I don’t mean Carrie Bradshaw cute, messy curly hair. The idea of makeup goes out the weekend. Right this very second I’m wearing moisturizer, mascara, and aquaphor on my severely winter-chapped lip. That’s it.
I’d like to think I’m just so naturally gorgeous that I will catch someone’s eye and who knows that may very well happen, but it’s more likely that I look like a college kid recovering from a Thursday night out…and I was in bed by 10:30 last night. I need to step up my weekly fashion game. Back to JV who was telling me about something she read (I can’t seem to remember the source of this information) stating that men are first attracted to women’s hair. At first I was like YAY! I think I have pretty good hair when it’s blown straight. Too bad I haven’t blown my hair in two days. As I type this my hair is up in a pony tail that has air-dried. It looks as good as you’d imagine. I hear my Mother’s voice in my head saying “put on some lipstick, you never know who you’re going to meet.” I used to roll my eyes every single time she said this and as much as it pains me to say this, she may be onto something.
So I’m thinking of giving myself a little challenge this upcoming work week. I’m going to post my outfits every day. Yikes. This going to get interesting, blog friends. I’m hoping to get some feedback on where improvements can be made, even on the days I don’t need to be dressed up. There is definitely a middle ground between comfy and cute, right?
Oh and if anyone wants to take this blogger to a fashion show (or two) I’m down :)
